scientia-scholarships
Are you thinking of pursuing higher studies? Then you may probably be thinking of financial backing as well. You need not always depend on loans to go in for higher studies. Apart from educational loans, monetary aid is available to students as Scholarships and Endowments. Scholarships enable deserving students to pursue higher education in their sphere of study or go for specialization by providing them necessary monetary assistance as course fee and book grant without having to repay loans. Today scholarships and stipend are available to school students, college students, research fellows etc.

The scholarships may be funded by Individual Trusts, Government Institutions, Institutions of Higher Learning like Universities, by Corporate Houses or by Missionaries and Charitable Trusts. The students have to fulfill the eligibility criteria as laid down by the respective organizations or institutions offering scholarships to be in receipt of these scholarships. The eligibility criteria set by institutions may be ones regarding the minimum and maximum age limit of applicants, the academic ability (scholarships are usually given to meritorious students who have performed exceptionally well in academics), exceptional interest in a particular field, research work carried out in that field etc. Scholarships are available in Arts, Humanities, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Law, Sports, Fine Arts and a number of other fields. While some of the scholarships enable students to pursue studies in India, International Scholarships enable students to pursue higher studies abroad. Some of these scholarships are quite prestigious and being a recipient of it gives adds weightage to one’s resume.

SCHOLARSHIPS IN INDIA

Scholarship is a boon for students, belonging to the weaker sections of the society, who are unable to further their education for some reason or the other. Scholarship is an incentive as well as encouragement for students, who are talented, but do not have the means to study further. There are a variety of scholarships – merit-based, need-based, student-specific, career-specific, and college-specific.

Scholarships are not easy to get, and this is why they are so valuable. In contrast, student loans are much easier to get, but they will be much more costly over the long term. Scholarships are powerful financial tools that students must utilize if they wish to graduate without owing a great deal of money.

Four year undergraduate programme, a part of new education policy

0

smriti-irani

The controversial four-year undergraduate programme of Delhi University which was rolled back by the Narendra Modi government last year, would be part of deliberations during framing of a new national education policy. “With regards to the four year course in any capacity… will it be allowed, that is also a part of the new education policy deliberation,” HRD Minister Smriti Irani said during an interaction with the students at the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) here. She said this to a poser by a student, underlining that the decision to scrap the programme was taken as such programme had no legal sanctity. DU had on June 27 last year scrapped the course and reverted to the previous three-year structure under pressure from UGC. The decision had put a cap on prolonged agitation by a section of the teachers and students demanding rollback of the FYUP course. Irani encouraged the students to post their feedback about their wish from the new education policy on www.mygov.in. “We genuinely believe in change. Give us your views as the existing education policy is 22 years old now,” she said. Government had on January 26 officially launched deliberations on the new policy inviting suggestions from stakeholders across the board on 32 selected items.

As part of the deliberation, the minister plans to visit some institutes in the coming days and interact with students. To a suggestion from a student of SRCC today who fumed that technical institutes and programmes are being given preferences over liberal arts, she said suggestions should be posted in the website for consideration. She also sought feedback from students on the nomenclature of courses and about diploma programme that could be changed into degree courses. Listing out the initiatives taken by her ministry to improve quality of education, she said capacity building of teachers was one the prime focus of her government. She said this when her attention was drawn by a student to the quality of teaching in classes. When an Economics student from Madhya Pradesh shared his plight of being unable to keep pace with the rest in his class due to his Hindi medium background and alleged lack of support from teachers, Irani assured him that he would have no such problem and that teachers would definitely help him out.

assam
Assam and Meghalaya have the worst pupil-teacher-ratio among the eight north eastern states with Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim topping the chart, according to an education report for the north east released by an NGO today. Only about 34 per cent schools in Assam met the RTE criteria of having one teacher for 30 students while about 60 per cent schools in Meghalaya do so, the Annual Report of Education Report (Rural 2014) for North East India, done by PRATHAM, non-profit organisations in each of the states said. ASER is the largest annual household survey of children in rural India that focuses on the status of schooling and basic learning. Among the top performers are Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim each state having over 90 per cent of their schools complying with the RTE norms, it said. While over 80 per cent schools in Tripura fulfilled the guidelines, nearly70 per cent of schools in Arunachal Pradesh met the prescribed RTE pupil-teacher ratio.

The report also said that over 50 per cent schools in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya does not have a separate toilet for girls and does not have facilities for drinking water. Even when the provisions were available and unlocked but most of these are not usable, it said.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided that a core team of evaluators will be formed for performing quality assessments in schools to ensure quality education. As part of School Quality Assessment and Accreditation (SQAA), schools affiliated with the Board will be assessed through standardized instruments and processes of internal (self-evaluation) and external assessment (peer review), CBSE said in a statement. “While quality assessment plays a vital role in school education everywhere in the world, CBSE will be forming its core team of human agents to gauge the same,” it said. CBSE in its School Quality Assessment and Accreditation (SQAA) Manual has specified that the team carrying out the external evaluation shall be called Peer Assessor Team, which will involve suitably qualified and experienced individuals.

“CBSE aims at forming a team of principals, whether working or retired and educators with a hand-on experience and rich insight in the process of school education. This will be the most effective way to improve the quality of education in India,” Director (Academics) CBSE Sadhana Parashar said. To streamline the process of selection of Peer Assessors and make it more transparent, the Board has proposed to conduct an online screening test which will include Multiple Choice Questions based on School Quality Assessment and Accreditation (SQAA) Manual and Case Study. This test will lend a hand to appoint cadre of effective an proficient Peer Assessors who are well-versed with CBSE SQAA and will thus be able to ensure maximum results, the statement said.

In order to meet the rising demand, a number of new spa therapy, health and sport institutes have come up across the country and they offer anything but the conventional degree in nutrition and sport management.

Instead, you can also find interesting new options like a degree in spa or salon management, yogic science, cosmetology or the therapeutic massage and more. The list of new courses are as below: Yogic Science at Ayush and Health Science University, Raipur Spa Therapy at Ananda Spa Institute, Hyderabad Sports Coaching at Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK Sports Nutrition at BMN Home Science College, Mumbai Salon Management at MTI College, USA Cosmetology at Ragency Beauty Institute, USA Studies reveal that careers related to exercise, wellness, and health promotion are projected to grow faster than average and that job prospects in these fields are favorable. The rising cost of healthcare, an aging population, and concerns about childhood obesity have increased the need for individuals trained in physical activity, fitness, wellness, and health promotion. As healthcare costs continue to rise, insurance companies, employers, and governments are attempting to find ways to curb costs.

One of the more cost-effective ways is to employ individuals prepared to teach people how to become and remain physically active, increase their fitness, and live healthy lives. These employment areas are expected to gain jobs because an increasing number of people are spending time and money on fitness and more businesses are recognizing the benefits of health and fitness programs for their employees. As job opportunities grow, so have the various career specializations and the new trend in the sector is to specialise under a specialization. So, if sports and wellness is an area that excites you, then what are you waiting for? Get ready to start hunting for a specialization that suits your interest.
