Nalanda University, Bihar Sharif
Known to be an ancient Buddhist learning center between the 5th and 12th centuries, Nalanda is one of the Archeological gems of India. The site has been linked with Gautama Buddha, Mahavira and Ashoka and flourished as a center of learning under the Gupta Empire. Unfortunately, the site was desecrated by the Turkic chieftain Bakhtiyar Khilji in the 12th century AD.
Founded in 1870 Nalanda College is one of the reputed colleges of Bihar offering under graduate, graduate and post graduate education programs. Situated in Biharsharif (district headquarter of Nalanda District) it is a constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar. Affiliated permanently in 1920 to Magadh University, Bodh Gaya it is one of the premier co-educational institutions of the state of Bihar imparting teachings to thousands of students with excellent environment.

There are 25 class rooms, 20 tutorial rooms, 20 laboratories, 1 seminar room, and 1 committee room in the college campus. There are a well-established library having seating capacity of 60 students and 15 teachers. There are about 1, 00,465 books in the library. The college is laced with excellent teaching tools/ads such as televisions, OHPs, LCDs, and VCPs/and VCRs. There are 80 PCs in Computer Centre of this college. In addition to this there is an auditorium, a gymnasium, a hostel, a playground, 8 houses for teachers, 4 guest rooms, 41 common rooms for students, 10 common rooms for teaches, and indoor games & sport facilities
Bihar Sharif is the seventh largest city in the northern Indian state of Bihar and the district headquarters of Nalanda district. The city is a hub of education and trade in south Bihar and the economy centers around agriculture, while also including tourism and household manufacturing. The city is one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed under Narendra Modi’s flagship Smart Cities Mission,[1] though it was not included in the first twenty cities to receive funding.[2]
Bihar Sharif has over two millennia of history. Under the Pala Empire, a major Buddhist monastic university was built at the site and it became the capital of Magadha. It was pillaged by Turkic invaders in the late 12th century, though local Rajputs soon re-established effective control. In the early 14th century it was permanently captured by the Delhi Sultanate. It was later ruled by other Muslim dynasties and then the British until Indian independence in 1947. The city has important Jain, Buddhist, Hindu, and Muslim heritage and landmarks.
