Gorichen Peak

Best Time to Climb: Summers is the best time to undertake this trek.
Where to stay: It is nearest to Tawang, and the guest houses there are quite decent. During the trek to the summit, you’ll have to set up camp.
Activities: You can undertake various activities like camping, trekking and even rock climbing. The trek to the summit is best undertaken by seasoned climbers.
Gorichen Peak is the highest peak of Arunachal Pradesh and it is located between Tawang and West Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Situated at an altitude of 22,500 feet above sea level, this peak is roughly 164 kilometre from Tawang.
The peak is locally known as Sa-Nga Phu, which literally means the Kingdom of Deity and is considered to be one of the sacred peaks protecting them from all the evils according to the local Monpa tribe. This peak is a great trekking and mountaineering spot.
At a staggering height of 21300 ft. Gorichen peak is the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh. The peak is considered by the local Monpa tribe as the protector from evils. Gorichen is a technical peak and only seasoned mountaineers try to make it to the top. You get a good view of the peak from the outskirts of Bomdila.
Gorichen peak, also called as Sa-Nga Phu is well visible from Tezpur. The view on the road Nechipu to Seppa is also pretty good. Most tourists come across it while traveling from Bomdila to Tawang. The snowcapped peak offers a beautiful view across the valley. Even though Gorichen is the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh it is not directly visible from Tawang. Even when you are at high altitude places like Sela and Bumla you wouldn’t be able to notice Gorichen Peak.
Very few tourists travel to the base of the peak and even fewer go on a mountaineering expedition. The distance from Nuranang to the base of Gorichen Peak is about 25 kms, so if you are interested you can visit it when you are Nuranang.
