The Pondicherry University has proposed to offer the country’s first MBA/LLM dual degree course. University vice chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy, announced the proposal during the 23rd convocation of the university, held on Wednesday. She said, “The university’s ‘School of Law’ would introduce the joint degree (dual degree) course under the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) in the recently notified scheme on innovation universities.” She further said “The joint degree MBA/LLM programme in international law and management will give a thorough grounding in both management and law. This accelerated course of study, which will be on a par with the standards of Harvard and Oxford Universities, has not been offered by any Indian universities so far. It is exclusively designed for highly motivated students, who seek a deeper education in both law and management”.

The School of Law would introduce a high quality 1-year master’s degree in LLM to retain students in the country. LLD- Doctorates in letters and literature in various disciplines is now on the cards, she added. The vice chancellor also revealed that the university was the first in India to adopt choice-based credit system along with the semester system, which facilitates mobility of students with credit transfer in India and abroad. Also, Pondicherry university is noted as the second in India to sign a memorandum of understanding with Information and Library Network (Inflibnet) for uploading thesis and making them available for open access. The university was third in India, to have functional Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) surveillance system, said the vice chancellor.
